It is slightly sweet. I did sent in my answer as Licorice/Anise, which I don't know if putting in two answers would have triggered a 'no' response. :/ I'll pass it around to some people tomorrow and see what they say.
look at "licorice" smells in your spice rack and vegetables. Fennel(lighter in scent), Anise(on par with licorice for strength), I am sure there are others, but pulling a blank at the moment. Will yell if I have an epiphany of some sort. Maybe a trip to your local herb shop for a sniff-o-rama?
Here's a list of herbs that smell like licorice. The site mentions: licorice (obviously haha), anise, star anise, fennel, tarragon, chervil, cicely and Thai basil. Also caraway is mentioned in the comment section.
I have confirmed with dispatch that my sample is Thai Basil. Had pho to celebrate. Mission Accomplished.
Grr still haven't achieved mine. Submitted carnation/rose - no go. Will try again today now that we're back from Iceland.
Other possible florals: peony, ylang-ylang, tuberose, gardenia? I feel like stuff like jasmine, lilac, lavender, lily, would be recognizable on their own.
Oooh! I'll have to look up peony at the market. Gardenia a possibility. Definitely right, not lavendar. Pretty sure not lilac or lily but I can check those at the same time. Thanks!
I was really hoping they were gonna be deadly chemicals rather than essential oils. No wonder all my guesses are wrong!
Ruled out a TON of floral stuff. Submitted olive oil, I'll have to see if I can track down Teatree oil while I wait for a response.
I retract my earlier statement. It is not Teatree Oil. Whoops. As soon as I can, I have some other ideas, such as Cardamum, Thyme Oil, and Bergamont.
