Although it may seem petty, I would like to see a "Dislike" button. I feel as though it's just as important to know who is disagreeing with you (and why) as it is to know who agrees with what you say - if for no other reason than to know how many shanks you're going to need to make...
While I agree it is important to be able to gauge whether or not people agree or disagree with something, I feel it's also important to encourage people to voice why they agree or disagree, not just show it, as quite a few nuances that would otherwise have improved the discussion might be lost in translation. *returns from reading the Animorph section* .. *clears throat nervously* I think primarily, I'd much rather see people have the option to help highlight good ideas, and drown out the bad ones, as opposed to down-play (dislike) the bad ones, and by extension, possibly discourage some players from voicing their opinion.
We are trying to promote a community, and adopting an elitist mindset will only hurt what we are trying to achieve. Exclusion by downvoting (even should the party deserve such) would deter other voices which may have taken the chance to be heard otherwise. I do not wish for such a feature, as the goal of The Black Watchmen is to achieve a greater goal with every little bit of efforts put forth by many parties; and I want those parties involved and unafraid of involvement (as they should be afraid of the dark, or spiders or Asian Hornets).
I think that upvoting-downvoting is a fine system for reddit and imgur, where popular or more factual comments will (probably) be sent up to the top for faster reading. But there's a reason why facebook doesn't have a 'dislike' button. At best, a 'dislike' is just a not-social action, at worst, it could work as a form of online bullying. I agree that if someone disagrees with a point they should make it clear and known 'why.' I think TBW is a little too complicated for a 'dislike' button to work, and (at least during the inception) we should provide more easy avenues towards being a supportive community than easy avenues to add negativity.
First, I like animorphs too , but here in France we didn't get them all ! Second, what if you could hightlight in a literal way ? like the more people like an exact quote the more bright it is ? then , on the other spectrum, contenent that is deemed "bad" wil be highlighted in , red maybe ? so you can't say it's censure but people will know that some other people deem it a bad idea/action ( I'm proposing this while getting ready for work , so it could be a bad idea (most bad idea are bred at this point of the day...) )
What about a way to collapse a post? That would hide it to yourself, but not to others. That way it's not pointing out to everyone that a mass of other people disagree with this person for whatever reason. :x
That would assist those that have problems accepting differing mass-opinions. It's not a bad idea at all. Pretty good too. No one knows you have collapsed a certain post to avoid viewing it. I don't know if that's something that you can implement into Xen Foro stuff, but the idea is pretty good.
Wouldn't that more or less amount to a very specific ignore function? Granted, I can see the virtues of such a mechanism in very specific scenarios, but on the other hand, I can't see someone posting an opinion so vexatious and horrendous, that you wouldn't want to use the ignore function anyway.
A collapse function could also serve to shrink the number of posts we have to scroll through to get to the latest post. That particular use would require a fair amount of maintenance to be really useful.
I was only giving an option that, to me, seemed better than having a dislike button or hi-lighting posts that would draw attention to the poster.
Ah, I agree that would be the better option in regards to dealing with posts you don't want to see, for the same reasons as Vismal and Nikel highlighted above.
I'm not entirely sure I agree... I'm thinking a better option might be a "Punch" button, next to "Like" and "Reply". Then, if you don't like what someone said, you click the button and a large boxing glove springs out of their monitor and punches them for you. Of course, we should probably also add a waiver of medical expenses to the forum TOS, but that's a minor detail. See, this is why you all should've voted for me as a moderator. Because I'm good at solving problems. -Bats *click*click*click*click*click*cli... what?
We will have a limited number of hours for changes in the forums. The first priority will be to address the opacity issues on any lightbox and rollover. Second will be the Profile page revamp so we can have a better tracking of peoples progressions and history. That will include also fixing overlapping label and tiny problem like that. The forums looks fine on iPad, I didn't test them on mobile yet. Once all that is done, I will look into adding new features. But I invite you to browse XenForo library of add-on. If you see one that you like, tell us. The preview button is a good example, simple add-on took me 1 minute to install. So I invite you to take a look in there, maybe there is already and add-on that do exactly what you looking for.
This one might be a good one for showing public progression? I'm not sure what exactly you're looking for there. I'll keep browsing. Here's another one that I think will be useful when it comes time for the story missions in the hub: Countdown Timer. And I can see you having fun with the Captcha Customizer hehe. Maybe I should just make a thread out of this XD
