Use this thread to discuss theories and keep track of clues and hints. Also, please post here the link to any document (or similar) created to cooperate on the mission. Meanwhile I'll try to keep this post updated with useful info and hints. (IRC CHANNEL LOGS can be found on this page, under the #m25.1 to #m25.9 options in the dropdown menu. Click #division66 to choose.)
25.1 Hint #1 Spoiler Demonology is an art form. Hint #2 Spoiler An ART form. 25.2 Hint #1 Spoiler That's not a cipher, but it does have meaning. Hint #2 Spoiler So does the picture. All of it, even the border. Hint #3 Spoiler So, that shape, and the type of writing inside of it, go together to help put together the solution. Hint #4 Spoiler You also need the know what that writing inside the shape means. Hint #5 Spoiler The circle border is named enso. Hint #6 Spoiler There are four animals traditionally mythologized by the Chinese.
25.3 Hint #1: Spoiler That's a road, if it wasn't obvious. Hint #2: Spoiler Roads-- and other structures-- appear on maps. Hint #3: Spoiler There are actually several acceptable answers. Look for nearby places that might get robbed.
25.9 Hint #1 Spoiler Split each of the two codes into three parts, the first four, the second four, and the third four letters Hint #2 Spoiler This is a math cipher, so turn the letters into numbers Hint #3 Spoiler You must subtract both latter sets of four from the first set of four (the english word). The spiral refers to the pattern this creates. Hint #4: Spoiler Is the last letter breaking the sequence? Try seeing how you can finish the sequence by doing things other than subtraction.
25.4 Hint #1: Spoiler The hints are really the same as 25.1 25.5: Hint #1; Spoiler So, that's the same text type as 25.2. It again tells you what you're looking for. Hint #2: Spoiler It's a name. Hint #3: Spoiler Listen to the fantastic music again. Hint #4: Spoiler Midomi.
Re: 25.7: Having difficulty narrowing down the target. Spoiler I've named every damn boat one can visit in the harbor. The enochian implies that it brings lots of watery death which makes me think of a military vessel, of which there are several. But no joy.
Yeah. I'm right there with you. Spoiler I went looking through the lists of naval disasters of 1942, nothing came of that either. I am assuming a British ship. I haven't tried plugging through non-British ships that might have sank others in '42. Midway would be the main remainder from that standpoint.
By this point I am thinking it is not a member of the obvious set Spoiler those that are in the embankment; he is talking about a past event and therefore not the one he sank a bit ago
25.7 Hint #1: Spoiler You should know how to translate the words by now. The numbers are important. Hint #2: Spoiler This is a past event. Hint #3: Spoiler You are looking for the sunk ship, not the sinker. Hint #4: Spoiler It's not British.
25.8 Hint #1: Spoiler Once you've looked up the flight, you can look up the call sign. Hint #2: Spoiler Given the origin of the airline, it's rather stereotypical.
I wrote out a full mathematical algorithm to solve the final part of 25. Just run this with iterations 1 through 12 and you'll have the answer Spoiler
Okay so I realised my previous post had a few mistakes in it, so I subscripted the iteration for letter position and simplified the subtractions. This made the actual equation easier but means it needs more notation. I also had to note examples this wouldn't work for. If the 4 letter word starts with C, for example, we'd end up with a 0 which wouldn't work. Still the same idea - doing this for iterations 1 through 12 will give you the solution. Spoiler
Over 2 hours spent on Mission 25. This was really cool and it was super early in the morning. The last part was awesome. Mission 25: http://www.twitch.tv/jkkennedy/v/15693432
I have written an Excel based solver for 25.9 to save time looking for puzzle pieces. If this is inappropriate let me know and I'll remove the link, it will then be available on request. Spoiler https://www.dropbox.com/s/muubgmw87m4hfgb/m25.9 solver.xlsx?dl=0
Now I have that damn Dr. Steel song stuck in my brain because of 25.9 Spoiler Make me (one), Copy and paste. Repeat...
Functional (non algorithmic) solution: transformation of english word to abyssal language word Definitions: 1. english word as a string of characters L = (l1,l2,l3,l4) :: example L(VOID) = (V,O,I,D) 2. english word in mathematical language X =(x1,x2,x3,x4) where xi = NUM (li) :: example X(VOID)= (22,15,9,4) 3.abyssal word A as a concatenation of english words A = X & Y & Z :: example A (VOID) = VOID & VNHB & SJAI Functional definition of abyssal transformation Abyssal words are transformations of english words and a of function of an ordered set of two well-formed abyssal words, the language is mathematical and absolute (|| sign): A(YHWH) = L(YHWH) & Y (YHWH) & Z (YHWH) where Y(YHWH) = X(YHWH)-|D1| with D1 = X(VOID) -Y(VOID) and Z(YHWH) = X(YHWH)-|D2| with D2= X(FIRE) - Z(FIRE) Therefore A(YHWH) is a recursive transformation of itself and of the ordered set (A(VOID),A(FIRE)) Abyssal language words have meanings within meanings, recursively nested? What are the meanings nested in A (VOID) and A(FIRE)?
Well, I'm stuck on 25.7. Spoiler I've put in all of the main ships sunk in 1942, reading up on Midway, Guadalcanal and whatnot, but there just aren't that many shipwrecks that killed "thousands". What am I missing?
