How did you discover The Black Watchmen?

Alright, so! I figured I'd ask our fellow agents and soon-to-be agents something I've been wondering for a while, after seeing all of these newer people since my recent absence.

    And that question is...

    *drum rollllllll*

How did you find out about The Black Watchmen?

So yeah! Let me know! I am curious as to the answers! Give us a story, though! We wanna hear the good bits :p

EDIT: Also, if you recruited anyone, tell me any stories you have w/ them regarding the series! :)

I was just sitting around doing some uni work when a strange flash from behind startled me. A man, who looked very similar to be but had obviously aged quite a lot, was stood there. It turns out he used some sort of unstable quantum device to travel to that very spot from the future.

He handed me a business card, an envelope containing a set of co-ordinates, and a green Aero. He warned me not to disclose the location of the co-ordinates to anyone or else the world would be in grave danger. He also told me to trust my fellow agents with my life for eventually they would all have to trust me with theirs....
And he told me to eat the green Aero when I wanted to be badass. Apparently it's what they did.

Either way, he disappeared just as suddenly as he arrived and I was left with a business card holding a clue which lead me to the Agency. I still have the Aero, but I imagine it doesn't taste as nice now.

Less dramatically... I was at PAX East 2015, competing in the Omegathon at the second PAX I had ever attended. I managed to find a spare couple of hours to explore the expo hall, and came across a both with a stylized all seeing eye on its banner. There, I met @Jarobi and spent a solid fifteen minutes sitting on the floor near the service elevator trying to figure out the 'hard' briefcase puzzle before I had to run off to my next thing. I didn't get the briefcase open, but I did sign up for their mailing list with a secondary email of mine.
MONTHS later I check that email at random and notice one of many TBW updates within. I'd noticed them in passing before but ignored them. I decided not to ignore this one... I got the game on Steam in September I think, and my first Operation was BLINDANGEL, the Halloween 2015 op. I sunk my hooks into the community right away that fall, and you've yet to shake me. ;)

    Far less drama for me:

I learned of the game from James Portnow. I had recently been getting into Extra Credits' Extra History and while flipping through videos, I saw his last "James Recommends" where he promoted The Black Watchmen. Well, between his wonderful promotion of the game and the links to Majestic (and my generally favorable view of Majestic then and now, although in the end, I thought it wasn't worth $10/month for the amount of content I got every month). That got me hooked.

ah, thats where i learned of this; i remember binge watching episodes of extra-credits as well, and at some point they recommended TBW because its an ARG thats easy to go get into, where the devs/community teach you how to solve these kinds of puzzles.
i got her right on time to "neutralize" some german tourists who defenitly would spread panic and disaster in europe

Since I play TSW, I learned about the universe from the forums. And the game was also recommened to me on Steam iirc.

Heard about TBW, ( and ARGs in general,) from listening to an episode of The Secret Cabal gaming podcast. I've never been much into conspiracy theories, (I figure if the Rothchilds of the world made it this far they're probably smart enough to hide any secrets they have from me,) but I do love a good puzzle :).

Met Anashel and his daughter at Dreamhack Montréal 2016, already heard a bit of the game through Steam random suggestions, but didn't give it a try. After hearing from him about the game, I did and it was awesome =)
Worse part is, they gave 2 puzzles there to win S1 and S2, the first one was very easy, and the second one a bit more challenging, and when I asked Anashel if I was on the right track, he told me no, so I spent the entire evening torturing myself over this puzzle only to find out that I was indeed on the right thing right from the start =( But it's okay, it was just a training for all the frustration the puzzles would give in the future I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I've been in since the old Secret War and 33 Gate days. when i heard that Anashel and his team were making a new arg, partially part of TSW (but not at the same time), i was all over that. backed in teh campaign, and just kept following where they led.

I remember way back when I saw the demo for the game came out on Steam, I was interested in what I read on the store page that I tried it out and I liked what I played. Sadly I wasn't in the best financial position to buy it off the cuff so I added it to my wishlist, perhaps a good sale might pop up. Turns out I ended up forgetting about the game until one day it came up during I think a Summer Sale for 75% off(I think, could've been 50%) or so I suddenly remembered my time in the demo and purchased the game and the DLC that was currently out.

Course despite getting the game I am a rather shy person in real life and was worried about new people, yadda yadda so despite playing the game I didn't join the community itself until a little before Operation Rolling Viper and I was glad I did as I have been having a ball in the community every since! Who knew playing an ARG game would make one and expert on Unmanned Vehicles (Cursed drones!).

Yeah, the great thing regarding this community is that we're very accepting of everyone. As long as you're nice we'll have a good time! :) Glad you decided to get involved!

EDIT: Might as well say how I joined TBW too, eh?

Well, I hopped in here once I saw The Black Watchmen on the pledge page! I was looking for some sort of ARG after reading up on and following Year Zero by Nine Inch Nails, and once I found it, I was obsessed. I signed up for the Black Watchmen newsletter in 2014, and was playing since Alpha. Unfortunately I didn't buy the game on Steam until Operation SILENTTHUNDER was completed by the collaboration between @Daedalus and the other agents. Since then I've been hooked! :)

I found my way here from a random post on reddit about TSW... I am a bit late to the party and missed the live seasons but hopefully I will be caught up soon! :)

You'll be fine! I am honestly pretty behind right now, but I am almost caught up! Just need to finish Alone in the Dark Web and Ahnayro! Need to do that before NITE Team 4 Alpha 0.8 comes out lol.

YouTube is good, but if you get the chance try to get in contact w/ the active agents on Discord! They hint toward the answer without being TOO obvious. YouTube tends to just show you the answer ;)

I haven't really jumped into any ARGs since Vanishing Point, which was....holy cow, 10 years ago. I'm an old man now, I suppose. But anyway, like TanukiD said above, I donated to the Secret Cabal's Kickstarter, and they will be launching a pretty slick-looking ARG later this year. I was excited about the opportunity to get back into the hobby. They mentioned a bunch of ARGs that they researched to get ready for their own, all of which are over now, except of course for Black Watchmen.

I was a little disappointed in myself that I'm so late to the party, but I suppose I should be happy that I've got soooo much content to enjoy. I'm currently about halfway through season 2 and wondering why, oh why, does the game sometimes require the diacritical marks, and sometimes require no diacritical marks.

Well, the funny thing is I don't exactly remember how I found out about black watchmen...maybe it has to do with those black vans (and I don't mean the shoes :)) Anyway, I tihink I fiirst heard about it while playing Secret World, tried the demo and liked it even though it was quite tough for me at the time. In the meantime, I found out I really like puzzles and practiced via geocaching mystery caches until I thought my skills have jumped up a notch.
Later I bought the game, and it sat in my Steam library for a long time (something I still regret) until I finally decided to give it a shot...and boy, I was lost and disturbed and loving it at the same time...I missed S1 and S2 while they were live, but the more I was amazed by my first live event (Silverspear) and the great community. Here's to a whole lot of new amazing experiences!

I am near the end of season 2 but I keep getting distracted by NITE Team! I have barely touched Ahnayro so that is my next challenge!
