As someone who bought the game this last weekend, I'm just starting to figure things out. I've been receiving cryptic emails from Cascade7 and finally figured out that they are part of some ongoing event that I wasn't around for the start of. How exactly is this mission supposed to work? From what I'm seeing, it looks like collaboration is a necessity. Does anyone have a recommendation on how to jump in? Should I start at the current point of the investigation or do I need to review everything from the beginning and perhaps try to solve some of the earlier puzzles on my own?
First of all, jump right into the IRC chat, that's where we're all working on it. There are a few threads related to the current live event in the Ongoing Missions section of the forum. Id suggest reading them to get up to date!

Welcome Agent Niamhea, The current event moved very fast (for example, they solved dataset 3 in like 10 minutes) but it's a great way to work on your puzzle solving skills. Give each step a try and if you don't get it, look at the answer and then reverse engineer to understand the steps. As mentioned, we're on IRC which is where most of the live missions coordinate (also, googledocs) and you can click the "live chat" button on the upper right for a web browser version.
