Due an troll/traitor sabotage yesterday, we are chaning out of Google Docs to more secure platform. Platform is called Sandstrom.io and i'm currently running on my server. What this allow's to do, is an all private + secure way to communicate with other agents. By private only YOU have access to your data. New docs can be created by installing Etherpad. In there you can set link for editing + viewing in Share option. You must have an Google Account to log in and you need to be verified by either me, Tutsie or nikel in IRC. You need to ask one of us to verify you by sending your google account name so we can change your status on the server. After that, you can start making your own documents. Site: http://tbw.sandcats.io:6080/ (yes you need the port since running on Sandcat DNS)
This is a terrible idea, the whole point of docs is that they can be accessed by anyone. While open to trolling, this kind of thing is the first step mmos take towards having an elitest cliche of players holding themselves around the rest. I watched this happen in Champions online, Star trek online, and half a dozen other games. Don't let it happen here.
Don't diss docs, bruh. Already Google Drive is good because of its: Accessibility through multiple devices and apps Familiarity with users Availablity for public archival purposes & freezing, if necessary This process you have proposed is lengthy and will make it difficult for many users, self included, to access vital information when it's necessary. One bad apple won't spoil the bunch. Also what Daed said, it will make it more out-of-reach for new users, community-wise.
Having a Google doc as a general information pool (X is going to point A, Y is backing X up) is handy and a more monitored doc for compiling information is fine. Our temp fix is emailing the information directly to HQ, and that makes it a little hard to collaborate great big files. What JantsoP has is just a google doc with an extra step to keep a random killjoy out. Even just a publicly viewable backup people can reference is handy so we don't need to PANIC when suddenly all our hard work is missing.
I agree with @Daedalus and @riningear . This could be a rather bad idea since many players could be left behind, and we do not want that. We'll have to deal with trolls the best we can.
The doc that was manipulated was one created by Division 66, to some extent they'll need to decide how they want to handle the issues.
