Be happy , where i live ramen are expensive ! so I'm on rice and whatever lowcost proteins (pork and chiken , mostly) i can put in !

Anywhere from 5-10 packs for $1, depending on the sale (although on price per volume, rice is hard to beat)... it's those proteins that really end up stealing the money from essentials.

('essentials' being, of course, largely ARG-related)

Beans, but then with rice & beans the spices it keep it interesting...
Is there no way out of the trap?

yeah , tough sometimes i can find fish (yes, fish !) for cheap ... these are good days !

(so you can get 5 cups for 1$ ??? Madness ! where I am i find them mostly at 3$ for ONE ! (sometimes I can get some less good ones a 1$ each...)

Maybe i should bulk buy from America , it would cost less...

Food in US is super cheap compared to where I live.
Once I was in NYC and thought I would bleed money from food...but nope, cost less eating out at all times of day put together than it was for pittance equal price here.
And this was NYC! And eating out! Nuts!!

How much control do the forums give you? Can you break out this last series of posts into a new, dedicated ramen thread?

And, in your insider opinion, would that ramen upgrade also be likely to include Yellow, Gold, and some additional protein and spices?

    -Bats
(and the cups are outrageously priced here, too... but the square brick packets without the cup can generally be found dirt cheap)

someone said to me that eating too much ramen could kill...tss tss, such disinformation !

Anyways , yeah the ones that arent in a cup tend to be cheaper, still too much for my poor wallet ( I mistreat him too, under duress :/ )

In-so-far as quality goes, the not-in-a-cup variety actually tend to be better, in my experience - and cheaper as well.
Can get some good Tonkotsu ramen (my preferred flavour) for around $1 for 5 packs at the specialty store (~asian market), but buying the cup varients found in most super markets, is highly overpriced, and lacks any flavour - in my opinion. :)

    Recipe time!
    Creamy Ramen
    Ingredients
    • 1 package ramen noodles
    • cheese (Kraft american singles work great!)
1- Cook ramen IAW preparation instructions, DO NOT DUMP THE BROTH. Seriously, that's heresy right there.
2- Add thin slices of cheese. The singles American slices are pretty much perfect, just one per serving will do it, but any chedder should work.
3- Allow cheese to melt, stir until rich creamy broth is obtained.
    4- Enjoy!

    Ramen Pie
    Ingredients
    • 1 package ramen noodles the actual ramen brand in the 'brick' work the best. cup of type things WILL NOT work.
    • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
    • 2 packages instant chocolate pudding (Vanilla could probably be used to good effect as well
1- In it's bag, smash up the ramen. It doesn't need to be dust, but bash it up really good.
2- dump smashed ramen into pie pan/tin, remove the flavor packet and save for extra flavor ramen at another meal.
3- melt chocolate chips. Be careful, chocolate will go from melted to burned very quickly! use the internets to find tips.
4- pour chocolate on top of the ramen, fold it in so that it is mixed will. This will cool rapidly, so be fast. Extra point if you can get it up the side of the pan/tin for the crust.
5- put in refrigerator to cool and harden.
    6- make pudding.
7- dump pudding on top of ramen/chocolate crust.
    8- refrigerate to set.
9- Cut and enjoy! Note: the crust does become very hard, chocolate has amazing binding properties.

And seriously, they are both delicious. You may doubt, but don't knock it until you try it.

That moment when you open a thread about food and realize you have never eaten this before...

I'm not sure about the cheese, and I'm french !!!
    The pie seems delicious tough...
So you say you buy them in special stores?
I think there's one not too far from here... tough anything's far when I don't have a car...

Mandraw, if you're not ridiculously far from it, it might be worth the trip to go to Germany and snag some food. When I was living there, I thought the prices were reasonable (read: only slightly higher than what I would pay in the US, mainly because the euro itself is so expensive... but that's another story altogether... :D)

XD if you get a big enough grocery list, it could be profitable to rent a car for the day to make the trip... Has ZipCar spread to France? Maybe a friend has a car you could borrow for a couple of hours (or would be willing to go with you for cheaper food?)

Edit: Kaufland is where I did my shopping, so idk outside of that...

I'm not sure Kraft american singles count as cheese... maybe "cheese-like product" ;)
I have a ramen recipe! but it's mostly salad with a bit of ramen, so I don't know if it counts...
