I refuse to feed the troll on KS. But I will answer it here because I need to say it.
MC argues that TBW's success as a game is problematic and because it may fail anyway, supporting the KS is futile. To support his argument, he compares TBW's kickstarter statistics with those of other successful projects. His facts and statistics are convincing because they are true. And, the endpoint of his argument is something we here are all concerned about.

But he misses two points in drawing his conclusion.
What he doesn't do, and as Anashel points out in his response (I think too politely due to his position in this), is to recognize that the TBW kickstarter is not a reasonable comparison with the other examples. We are not monetizing the game via Kickstarter, we are raising seed money. By nature, an appeal for seed money would elicit response in proportion to the passion of the contributors. His facts bear this out: we are passionate about this.
What he also doesn't do is recognize the plan is to never have a finished TBW product. By its nature, it will always be a work in progress, so we are all here for the ride not the destination. If it runs one season or 40, I expect to enjoy the heck out it and it'll be worth every penny.
    edit gah - title doesn't capitalize M C properly

Such is life on the forums.

Anyway, yes. We were writing a response in the IRC together and then A&S posted, negating that need. I just want to echo the thought that I will be here until the bitter end.

Just read his post. I can sort of see his point. I am assuming he isn't reading these forums and seeing the community that is already building well, and I am equally sure there are people out there who will play when things get going but who do not necessarily have the finances to back the Kickstarter campaign. In short, given the huge numbers that participated in previous ARG's (albeit TSW connected) I think a successful ARG based on the Black Watchmen will very soon have a much larger playerbase than MC anticipates. Great Oaks and all that....

Well I had been working on a response to the comment on kickstarter but I am going to leave it be. A&S responded with great professionalism and anything more is completely unnecessary.

Suffice to say I am here and I am not going anywhere. And I am sure that that is a sentiment that the majority of us share. And I am more than optimistic that our player base will blossom. This is a unique product and it will thrive.

There is three missing key in his analysis that I simply disagree.

1- It's seed money. Exactly. That give us credibility for steam or other publishers.

2- We built the 48th fastest growing company in Canada with 70 employees now. (Human Equation) We are entrepreneur, Alice and Smith is our third start-up and we never been so dedicated and invested in it to make a success. Don't underestimate the power of a community couple with the power of passionate creator and artist. This is not our first business.

3- Finally, it's a first for the genre and we hope it will bring a lot of attention and even help other puppet master pave the way. And I am quite proud to be part of it. Both the game and the comic book.

Hehe, no worries, I'd say. Only a good thing that it isn't just the Developer taking a stance against misplaced criticism - they are, after all, the ones most easily accused of being biased. Players backing them up only lends credence to their rebuttal.

As long as we steer clear of going into

mode, one or two players backing up Anashel with courtesy and respect - as you did - is fine and dandy. :)
