I'm setting up this thread as a dedicated place for members of the science division to talk/exchange ideas/discuss who's cute (everyone knows it's me ). But in all seriousness, this thread is for in and out of field researchers working on current missions. The theories posted here should be more in-depth than what you might find on docs.google and you should have some evidence to back them up. With all that being said, welcome to SciDiv. As a side note, I realize that right now most of the research is being done in basic investigations. However, I notice a distinct lack of hypotheses in that thread. Hopefully this thread will rectify that. As a side, side note I modified a few sources and with Daedalus' help made the logo up above as well as a small SciDiv propaganda kit here.
Problem is : This thread won't be able to support and get used for EVERY SINGLE MISSION in the game, because we'll be on many many missions, and i frankly prefer to cooperate with everyone and not only the scientific viewpoint.
That's likely. However, there's a good chance that when the game fully launches that something like this will appear for all the classes. Military and paramilitary organizations get split into different divisions/battalions/squads for a reason. It doesn't mean they never interact, or even rarely interact, just that people have their specialties and those with the same specialty can be more efficient working together and in turn supporting those with different specialties. However, I'd like to reinsist that aside from chatter from those who are looking toward the scientist class, this thread is meant to be more of a place where actual theories about the current mission is posted. I don't see a lot of that going on in either IRC or the other thread, and speculation, even wrong speculation that is supported with evidence, can get us on the right track to solving the puzzle.
So, for theories, I think that Dore is our strongest link. I also don't think that we're privy to all the information that we need to crack this puzzle yet. I think though that the dates of the pictures we're being given will eventually hex into website. Taking this theory in mind, I used the information that we already have (all relevant information is in the google doc) and right now we have "WWue" available, which looks to be the beginning of a web address (maybe some of our hackers can look into that?), that's also taking the "Childrens Crusade" etching by Dore into consideration - something we haven't confirmed yet. I expect that we'll see at least one more etching from his 1857 art (the divine comedy) to complete the WWW portion of the address - if I'm correct in my assumptions.
Hello! Science! I have to agree in that we likely don't have enough information yet. This mission was said to last through the Kickstarter campaign, after all. On the topic on thread use, perhaps instead the various Division threads could be used eventually to give tips, tools, and help for those of the division. Not all people of a division are experienced, so it would help give people a hand.
The only theory I've managed to work up, is based on the message we received regarding "Traitors" - it's back in the other thread, but to try and sum up the jist of the theory: It assumes that we're not looking for a single traitor, but that we're being screened for potential traitors, before we're accepted into the Black Watchmen officially. (or before the game launches, in other words) I can, however, add some additional thoughts based on the things we've seen since then: The update on KS stating how Gladys "demonstrates her affection and respect for the unity of The Black Watchmen." hints toward the question of unity or discord being the main theme of the current investigation, or at least the things currently being discussed in TBW. I may be reading too much into it, but I found it a striking choice of words. Add to this how the most recent engraving we've been shown (in the AMA), is one of "New Jerusalem", the city that, according to prophecy, would be the meeting place for the worlds nations, as well as the center of reunification of the "12 tribes". Again, "reunification" as opposed to something pointing towards a specific traitor. Furthermore, the chronological order of the pictures also hint that, after we've been "questioned" (Dante questioning traitors in Dis and Cocytus), we'll be guided to our new home. As such, I still suspect this being a waiting game; see how far, or far beyond, we go in our search for the truth, and whether or not we turn to "unethical" means, in the sense of unethical towards TBW, in order to find this information. As for the whole sub-division of classes discussion: I do agree that, regardless of whether or not we accommodate it, people will want to discuss facets about their chosen classes. However, with the plethora of language specific sub-forums having been added, I'm already starting to worry about fracturing the community, so I'd think some guidelines for how class-specific sub-forums should be used, would be in order - and if I recall correctly, such guidelines are already in the works. For example: Any Investigation will have either 1 or 2 threads. If only 1 thread, then the OP will have to update the main post with the relevant new findings, as well as how they were found, to avoid people having to sift through pages upon pages of cogitations, just to find the bits that would explain the how of things that've been discovered, and not just the what. In the case of a 2-Thread system being implemented, the whole keeping up with the how falls to a seperate, likely locked - or heavily moderated - thread. Bit more open, but only posts that describe how each step was discovered, and the thinking behind finding it, would be allowed. This, of course, means that ruminations on on-going investigations could, arguably, happen in each sub-division, but only insofar that they are primarily without consequence to the investigation itself. In other words, only if you think your thoughts wouldn't be worth anything to the investigation. Taking my above cogitations as an example; how would you describe it? Is it of plausible significance that I should've posted it in the actual Investigation thread, or is it sufficiently unrelated that it belongs in the sub-division forum? For me, that's a bit of a tough one to answer, to be honest. A better example of what might be considered appropriate for class-specific forums, may be a discussion regarding when engraving as an art-form started, as we have little reason to believe it's the fact that they are engravings that is of importance. That way, people could discuss side-topics of a mission, and if we suddenly find out it may be important, people will already have given that some serious thought, ready to be injected into the main investigation. Ultimately, I think that any sub-division should be strictly for discussing the ins and outs of classes. Kind of like an "Off-topic for Scientists" sub-forum. But most of all, I'd want it to be structured in such a way that we avoid any potential rifts between both classes as well as languages, within the community.
