Does anyone out there know any good books in a similar vein to the Black Watchmen to tide me over until the next mission or the comic book? I was looking at getting into The Atrocity Archives but I'd be interested in my fellow Agent's recommendations.
The Atrocity Archives series is excellent. It has a lot of Cuthulhu based secret agent stuff that can be related to TBW in a fun way. It's a good source of ideas for your character and potential weapons and equipment. "Halting State" (also by Charles Stross), deals much more specifically with a secret agency that has an ARG front. Its sequel, "Rule" 34", is also good but much less ARG related. It would be a good source of extremely disturbing mission ideas as you can probably tell by the title (I still haven't found out of Nicolae Ceaușescu really did have a Soviet made industrial strength enema machine). I think The Atrocity Archives are still the best in this area, but if you want to look for other books that also blend occult/weird with secret agencies I also recommend these: "Secret Histories" series by Simon Greene (if you are a James Bond fan) "Monster Hunter" series by Larry Correia (if you like the idea of Afghani Orcs that fly helicopters while listening to thrash metal) "Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences" series by Pip Ballantine (if you'd like a Steampunk version of The Avengers) "The Rook" by Daniel O' Malley (if you'd like a refreshing break with a female secret agent protagonist) (sequel forthcoming) EDIT: I forgot to add "Kraken" by China Mieville (Tentacular... that's all I'll say about it)
Thanks for the recommendations Agents, looks like my kindle library is about to get a little weirder.
